Rocky Clay & Perennials
I use the Jerry Baker combinations for the lawn and to keep my
houseplants clean and bug free when I bring them in the house. I give
them multi-vitamins and tea. I try to keep rabbits away with pepper and
garlic. The rabbit thing did not work, but our lawn was beautiful.
We are now in a new home with a new lawn. The ground is clay (red,
sticky clay) with a lot of rocks. We are on the northern edge of the St.
Francois Mountains in Missouri. No, this is not a large mountain chain,
but it is hilly for norther Missouri. Trees, ferns, etc. are growing in
the area. When I went to put my bulbs in I struck rock. I tried to
remove as much as I could and line the holes with top soil. Does anyone
have any other suggestions?
I have saved the Stella D'Oro daylilies and iris for the Spring. (brought
them from my last home) I hope that they will be okay, but I have to
tackle location and soil problems first. My clematis are in pots in the
basement.
