There have been a lot of woody plant questions on this list lately, so I'd
just like to remind you all that there is a woodyplants mailing list here
for this purpose.

Remember that perennials generally refer to plants that are herbaceous,
while woody plants have some portions that are lignified ("become wood
or woody by chemical and physical changes in the cell walls that convert
some or all of the constituents into lignin or lignocellulose.")
