Are you three going at each other's throats again?

Harry, I thought that it was wonderful to see you pointing Mr. Adney at
some resources that may have been of interest. I don't think, however,
that Duncan was trying to slight your list in any way -- we all know that
sentence construction and finesse is not one of Duncan's strong points,
and we all love him for it.

I don't think that there's any need to try and discredit Duncan for
promoting his own list, however. A list that is highly technical (as
is alpine-l) in nature could probably find more use in less technical
resources. A list like perennials has more beginners, making alpine-l
a less useful resource for them. Perhaps it would have been better
phrased as "The list tends to have experienced gardeners on it, and
as such often contains more complex postings. It is a fantastic
repository of information, and I encourage you to at least check it
out."

Now I don't pretend to know what Duncan was really thinking or what
you were thinking when sending this message, but as mature individuals
I would have hoped that this could have been settled in a less public
forum. But the floodgates have been opened, so we'll let this run
its course.

For the record, here's his orginal posting, which ballooned out
from 4 lines to a 105-line response:

Hi Harry,
Alpine-l is a very educaitonal mailing list. It is alittle beyond the
normal gardener like myself. I am still trying to figure out what is
defined as a alpine so I don't post none realated material.

At any rate, I find it amusing that Duncan's post found it's way to
this mailing list before reaching alpine-l, to which it was posted
over 30 hours ago.

> Yes, Duncan, we are happy to give you the publicity you seek for your

Did Duncan authorize the re-transmission of his messages, meaning the
one forwarded to perennials from alpine-l, and the one that you say will
be sent to alpine-l from the perennials list? Just checking -- I know
you jumped on his case many times for reposting alpine-l submissions,
and I wouldn't want anyone to accuse you of being hypocritical.

Now let's drop this and talk about perennials, or rock gardens, or
anything horticultural that doesn't involve bickering.

Chris
