You buy roots in early spring and plant those. Keep in mind that hops is
(shudder) deciduous, the vine portion is coarse enough to sand wood with,
and the vine will spread underground. I planted them years ago at the edge
of my garden path to climb over my fence. Each year it's a task to cut off
the vines and dispose of them (run them through the mulcher grinder, but
it's somewhat like trying to run jell-o through there). And more come up
in the middle of my path now. They'd take over the whole garden if we
weren't vigilant. Think bamboo when you plant them. How you're going to
contain them. Good luck, Margaret
