I found that slugs were a real problem for my hostas this year. Since I didn't want to use anything toxic to my dogs, I used beer instead. (This was recommended by a friend who lived with slugs in Washington state.) I cut down yogurt cups and bury them so that the top is at ground level and then fill with beer. The slugs crawl right in and drown themselves.

You might have deer-Deer love Honeybells and sudar&cream is a Honeybell
mutation.
Chipmunks do not eat leaves-they might go for flowers-but that is a story for
a different day.
Deer eat from the top of the plant and work they way down. Slugs make holes in
the leaves and the stems.
I do not know how tall your sugar&crean is but it is a nice attractive Hosta
that grows best in some sun. If will grow 2.5 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide. I
have a striated form of this plant I really love. Though I am not a fan of
striated plants.
To control slugs "slugeta' works very well for me. It looks almost like rabbit
food, sprinkle it around your Hosta every 5-6 weeks and those slugs will be
history.
