Barbara, how lucky you are to have so much property. Would be much fun
to have that to deal with. When we lived in Texas we had terribly
sandy soil with very poor nutrients. Other areas have to deal with the
hard clay, so from place to place your gardening challenges can be quite
different. What I noticed about the wildflowers in our area is that
from year to year the varieties and quality changed a great deal. The
weather can be so unpredictable you might have something remain dormant
a whole season but when the conditions are right they will reappear.
You do have some good garden centers around. Ask if there is a Master
Gardener on staff and let them know the type of soils you are dealing
with. Most likely you will need to find out what perennials and other
plants love an alkaline soil. Wish I had as much property to have fun
with. We have about 3/4 of an acre here in Louisville. When we lived
in Texas we had a bit more than an acre but it was darn near 100% deep
shade, another challenge.

Happy gardening, I know you will find what will work for you with a
little research and help from the locals.
