lisianthus is a very slow starter, It's proper name is Eustoma grandiflora or
"Prairie gentian." It is a native plant to southern prairies of central USA.
It went to Japan and the Japanese refined it and it has come to us as a choice
cut flower. Its a member of the gentian family thus as you can see like other
gentians has very small seeds. 624,000 seeds per once in fact.
Seeds should be sown in November, plants will bloom in June or July.
Germination at 10-15 days at F 75. I recommend using only pelleted seed, it
is easier to work with. Plant on a good free draining seed starting mix and
just cover seed with soil. Keep the seed try under glass or sealed in plastic
transplant when at the three true leaf stage. Start plants in subdued light
and after they have mad some growth they like it bright and warm, they need a
rich soil to grow fast so fertilize often. These are tender plants and are not
cold hardy, they will over winter in zones 9-10.
