Being a former Californian, and now a transplanted
Oregonian for 15 years, I can vouch for the
monotony of the nonseasons in California.
Obviously it doesn't affect everyone that way, but it
really gets old!
I craved "seasons" my whole life, even though I'd
never personally experienced them. Besides the
visual beauty and rhythum of seasons, I think its
good for us to "rest" too, like the plants and the
ground does, for part of the year. For some reason
that's hard to do that when its nice and sunny
everyday. It seems to promote constant busyness
-- year round.
Just my 2 cents!
My sympathies with your verbascum. They are
fairly new to my garden so I can't comment on them
from experience yet. Except that 'Helen Johnson'
simply never stopped blooming all season here in
my 6b/7a garden.

For mine is just a little old-fashioned garden where
the flowers come together to praise the Lord and
teach all who look upon them to do likewise.

Dear Nan
It's rather hard for those experiencing snow and
winter slush, gray skis
for days on end to feel very sympathetic for
someone with year around
growing conditions--but we will try.
