Re: Verbascum questions

Nan,
No sympathy here about your one season dilemma!!
I have verbascum, called arctic summer. It's only two years old and acting
much too happy in my garden, multiplying on its own and such.
I planted it against a northern wall behind a bed of english roses and
lavender. The first summer it was mediocre - no big spikes. The second
year, it grew to 6 feet, bloomed all summer, and had three babies sprout to
its right and left. They grew spikes and bloomed as well. It needed
staking. It's supposed to be propogated by taking root cuttings in the
winter, but I simply transplanted the large baby plants to other parts of
the garden. It dies down for winter - here in B.C. Canada it hasn't died
yet, but it will.
