Re: Verbascum questions


Mine is definitely in the apricot/peachy range and is quite lovely.  The
extreme variability  of flower colour is probably the result of people
growing it from seed.
I have been advised by several people that this plant will not come true
from seed, if it even sets seed, and that the only way to reproduce it is by
root cuttings.  I would suppose that many of the seedlings could be quite
attractive, although obviously some are not, but they would not be "Helen
Johnson".  This is not unusual. For example, many of the named Dianthus will
not come true from seed (most of the really nice ones) and have to be grown
from cuttings as well.
