Did you discard the soil, or is it enough for the backhoe to chew it up?
We, too, have a voracious stand of bamboo. . . .

Laury,
I, too, have a friend who had bamboo. For a summer we fed it an elixir of
roundup, to which it belched with delight, growing ever bigger and stronger.
The following summer, a backhoe came in, dug down a foot (maybe 1-1/2 feet)
and the area was reseeded. Since it gets mowed frequently, there have been
no stray shoots that we've noticed.
