I live in Wisconsin and have a large pond about 12x10ftx18inches deep.  The
larger pots of hardy lilies, I leave in the pond, which is kept from
freezing totally by keeping an air pump running through the winter with an
aux. heater that I use if the temp gets below 0F for any period of time.
The potted plants I simply place in large plastic bags and place in my cool
(50-60F) basement for the winter, checking occasionally to be sure they
don't start to dry out.  Good luck with the water lettuce (Pistia sp.).
I've found it's very difficult to overwinter even with lights.  I usually
buy mine fresh each spring.  I had a bumper crop this year - from just 3
plants in spring, I harvested 3 bushels of plants this fall - too bad
they're not edible!
