Lobelia siphilitica, etc.

My book says this is a short-lived, clump-forming plant. My 3
clumps are going into their 4th year -- have new rosettes of growth
now, after I cut them back for winter. I noticed their roots were
creeping up out of the ground this summer. Rather than digging &
resetting, I dumped a pail full of compost around each, and they
grew and bloomed quite well. I have had to replace previous plants
of this every 2-3 years, however, so I guess they do tend to be
short-lived. If these make it to spring, I will dig & replant.

On the other hand, a clump of L. cardinalis is now 6 years old, has
been moved once, and is still thriving. I had a pink version but it
did not make it past the first year, although it was stunning for
the one season. Can anyone recommend a good source for varieties of
these great plants?
