RE: Shade shrub other than Holly

Deciduous? How about corylopsis pauciflora or leycesteria formosa,
hydrangeas, aronia (chokeberry); *some* shade: viburnum bodnantense,
viburnum tinus, viburnum carlesii, forthergila gardenii, enkianthus, tree
peonies -- and I believe many of these are fragrant and have more than one
season of interest as well. And there are MANY roses that tolerate shade
conditions as well -- the hybrid musks don't seem to mind it at all. These
are my recommendations based on experience with all but the tree peony.
