Donna, do you know which species of Cyclamen you've got? Potting them
wouldn't hurt them at all. If they recently finished bloom and have just
put out leaves, sounds like they may be hardy Cyclamen. If that's what
they are meant to be, plant them out in a spot that will receive some
winter sun, but light to medium shade in summer. They actually like to be
at the base of trees and large shrubs because they prefer to be a bit on
the dry side when they are dormant...not dust dry, but they don't like
sitting in wet. Cyclamen like good drainage, so dig in some gravel. Just
unpot them very carefully and slip them into the ground - they won't know
the difference and it would be better for them than trying to keep them in
the house, I think.
Mulch them with some smallish gravel - helps keep the critters from digging
them up and makes sure the drainage around the tubers is good....actually
granite grit is very good for this.
Cyclamen prefer cooler temperatures. I have tons of the non-hardy C.
persicum (planted some seed on a lark and they all germinated!) These can
be kept inside in a cool room with bright light - like an east facing
window, but the trick is cool - like not getting over 60F. If you really
want to keep yours inside for winter, they would probably do well in the
same conditions...cool is the keyword and they do need bright light while
they are in leaf.
