Re: Winterizing

Hi Marilyn & Ginny

I'm also feeling kind of sad and droopy. I know we need a much
deserved rest. it's been a long, hot, humid, and dry season, and I
have worked hard and worried much. but I miss the flowers and all the
work that goes into gardening, in the winter months. I do sit around
with a catalog in my hand planning and plotting. I don't think I have
many plants that don't get a new location to start off the season.
I've moved them so much until I don't even know where some of them are
located most of the time.
I've already done my seed sowing for this fall and I told my husband
come spring we can't put a shovel or a hoe in the ground until my seed
start coming up. I don't know where what is planted. I've got lots
more seed to plant in the spring.
I want to order more seed, but don't have anywhere left to plant, and
my husband has flatly refused to give up the veggie garden to more
flowers. He's not being very coorperataive .
one of the things I love to do is the container gardening. every year I
say "this year I'm not gonna do many and every year I have more than
the year before", but there are so many differant things to do in a
container, and I place a lot of them in my flower beds, for color. I
want to do a large pot with lots of pink impatients and a few
"blackie" sweet potato vine. and place it in one of my flower beds,
and set a old garden chair next it.
last year I took a large bag of potting soil laid it flat and split
holes in it and put in viola's and it turned out beautiful. got a lot
of compliments on it. and it lasted longer than I expected.
there are all kinds of neat things to do. I get a lot of ideas from
gardening magazines

well posting this message has really lifted my spirts and I feel much
better than before. it always makes me feel good to talk about
gardening.

hope everyone makes it through the winter without going into
depression. dig out those magazines and those catalogs. there's fun
to be had in gardening

Happy Thanksgivng to one and all
