Barb,
there's a gentleman here at my job that has a window full of hibiscus. He
waters after letting them dry out a bit and then uses a half-solution of
Miracle Gro. He says that since he waters so much (every week or so), the
nutrients in the potted soil get washed away. I asked him once about salt
buildup from the fertilizer, but since he's had a couple of those hibiscus
for over two years with no repotting, I gather that it's not such a big
problem.
Every so often he will cut them back to about 12" high. He says that this
stimulates new growth/new blooms and keeps them to a manageable size.
Since his blooms are so pretty, I don't argue with his success.
