fertilizing indoor perennials

Hi all-
I remember reading that one should back off on fertilizing perennials
when they're brought indoors for the winter. What about the ones that
keep blooming?
I've got 2 hibiscus that are putting out up to 4-6 new blooms a day, so
I've been fertilizing them.
Is there a general rule on this? And how do you know if you're
fertilizing too much?
