Re: garden fall clean up
I do hardly any cleaning up in the fall, except maybe for dead iris foliage
because like someone else said, nature doesn't do any cleanup in the
autumn....and besides that I like to leave flower seed heads for the birds,
especially coneflowers which goldfinches love.
I do dig canna and dahlia bulbs tho and pull up tomato and pepper plants
(the best ones) and bring into garage. This is zone 5 and we had first
frost Sept 26...and the last 4 mornings, temps have been in the low 30's.
So I've given up covering anything and have reluctantly resigned myself to
the end of another growing season.
