garden fall clean up

Hello all,

Well I finally got my largest perennial bed fall cleaned. Cut all of
the following to about 6 inches. Monarda, rudbeckia, chelone, crocosmia,
gailllardia, hibiscus, hosta, iris, lily, physostegia, red hot poker,
silver king, yarrow ect. and dug a huge amount of orenothera out. It
will return no matter how much you remove. I just couldn't chop off the
fever few and phlox as yet because they and quite a few annuals are still
blooming, it is only a matter of time though as we have rain and cooler
weather predicted here in the S.W. corner of Indiana (almost KY)

My Canna garden looks stunning and I just hate the thought of cutting
them down and digging out tubers. But better to do it before the rain
and mud and while the temp is still nice,,,,also need to dig up the
dahlias but they look better than they have all summer.

Hubby just constructed a new hot bed 29 foot long by about 30 inches wide
for me and I have been busy dividing and potting up Hosta and Coral bell
(mostly) to fill it up for the winter. He used old rail road ties,
stacked 2 high in the back and a single in front with old storm windows
hinged to close.

How many of you are doing the fall clean up and how many waiting until
spring?
