Website Redesign suggestion

I would like to redesign my domain to a larger format.
What is a larger format...? it is designed to a width
of 800 pixels. Cnn.com, ABC and ESPN are just a small
few who have gone to this larger size.
WHat Internet's site do you really like that I should
review for ideas?
Don't forget, my website is just a hobby. Im the only
one at the controls. It would be nice to get rid of
the ads...but it help pays for the cost to run the
site.
