Marge, I can't imagine why you aren't getting my posts; let's see if this one arrives.
All ground covers will have the problem of weeds growing in them before they've spread sufficiently to cover the ground. I have used both euonymous and vinca minor as ground covers and hand weeded them. However, a local nurseryman swears they will stand up to Round-Up and he's done it many times himself. I've never quite had the nerve.
