when living in Maine-

I think a gift coupon for a rose from a rose catalog next spring might be in
order. It might be difficult to keep a rose alive - in or out of the ground
with winter coming on here in the north.
What does Paul suggest for this late in the year?
I've just about given up on roses here in s. Wisconsin - but I do have a
white Austin rose that has managed to survive for about 4 years now. And one
of the hybrid teas sprouted from the rootstock and bloomed, even though the
flowers were smallish and sort of a muddy red, there were plenty of them.
And if it means I don't have to fuss with spraying, winter protection,
etc. - I'll keep it!
