The paper is not going to harm the seeds, but you could wash them of in Luke
warm water and dry with a cloth and then set out to air dry. A quick wash
should do no harm, it sounds like when you washed them the first time you did not
remove all the juices, in most fruits the juices have a germination inhibitor
that helps prevent the seeds from germinating in side the fruit or the seeds
need to dry to a certain point before they will taken in water and germinate.
