I can't answer the hollyhock question -- my hollyhock (singular) did
just fine, and we didn't pay much attention to it.
But I have another hollyhock question. I collected seed, and planted
them a couple months ago in trays. The seeds sprouted, but the
seedlings are still tiny. Should I plant them in the ground now, and
pray, or should I baby them over the winter? If I do the latter, I
assumed they won't bloom next year -- but I'm not sure there is any
basis for that assumption. I thought hollyhocks were supposed to
self-seed happily, but mine does not appear to have done so. I'm in
north zone 7 (Bethesda, Maryland).
Thanks for your help.

Greetings: Last year I planted hollyhocks, and they just produced the
green
plants; this summer most of them did the same thing, no blooms, just
green
leaves; they were in sunny spots;
same with a phlox that I had transplanted: it grew very nicely but
never
bloomed; it was in a very sunny spot;
should I leave them where they are and hope to see flowers next year?
