fine day

Greetings everyone!

What a beautiful day. It's autumn, but one wouldn't know it. High temp
Friday was 94 degrees; more of the same forecast for today, after which
temps are to be near normal (highs in 60s). So we enjoy it while we can.

Most of the perennial planting is completed; will wrap it up today. Have
extended a hosta garden and am adding a few other perennials.

Bloom from perennials is about gone except for mums and asters. Annuals,
especially marigolds, are generally beautiful -- their last hurrah
before the first frost. The first major frost usually occurs here about
Oct. 7, but looks like it'll be later this season.

Trees are starting to turn color but are behind schedule. Traditionally
the peak season is mid-October, but will probably be a week or so later
this autumn.

Hope to get the 8 bird feeders up this weekend, after all the plants are
in the ground. Five will contain sunflower seed, 3 niger seed. I counted
a dozen different types of birds last winter.

Houseplants are mostly indoors, though there are about a dozen remaining
to be prepared for bringing inside. That's another project to finish in
the next few days.

The major work is over -- hooray!! -- and catch-up is all that remains.

The vegetable patch is about done, though we're still getting nice
tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.

And that, dear fellow growers, is what's happening at the Adney gardens.

Hope your autumn is as fabulous as our's. Good gardening to you!
