Well, I haven't done too much list administration since I got back from
Minnesota. I had a great time, and I'm really grateful to Marge Talt,
who did a fantastic job keeping things going while I was gone.

I'm noticing now that tensions are starting to run high on the list. I'm
not sure why -- maybe it's the onset of fall, reminding us all of the
things that still need to be done in the garden. Whatever the reason,
it's not making the list fun or informative as it was originally
intended to be.

Please, let's try to discuss topics relevant to perennial gardening. I
think that some degree of informality and chit-chat is a good thing,
helping to break the sterile atmosphere predominant on many (but not
all) moderated lists. But like anything taken in excess, it can
be harmful in the long run. Try sending messages to the original
poster if the content isn't of interest to everyone.

Also, remember that each individual on this list is just that -- an
individual. They have the same rights as you do and should be
allowed to exercise them. There is no excuse for criticizing an
individual for his or her opinions when it goes beyond the
boundaries of good-naturedness.

When each of you went through the arduous process (darn those
spammers who make it so difficult!) of subscribing to the list,
a set of rules were sent out. I'm noticing now how brief they
are, but they are still applicable. Please reread them:

   RULES:

o No images are to be transmitted via email. If you have a need
to share pictures, send mail to owner-perennials@mallorn.com
and a common area can be set up.

o Users must respect other users and the content of this list. We
reserve the right to remove users from this list if they cannot
        observe these rules.

o Keep frivolous messages to a minimum, and keep message content
short. Each message sent to the list gets redistributed to
each member, putting a heavy load on our mail server. Shorter
messages mean faster delivery and better performance.

      o Have fun.

For more information on netiquette within mailing lists, look at:

         http://www.plu.edu/home/netiquette.html#OneToMany

I've also noticed that many of you have been trying to unsubscribe by
sending mail to me or the list itself, failing with each attempt. If
you look at the bottom of each and every message sent out through this
list, there are instructions detailing the unsubscription process.

Finally, let's have fun!

Chris
