Hi all,
Here's my second message on pineapple sage.
Several people wrote about blooming. My sages have bloomed every year.
I found that the ones I actually planted in the ground in full sun
bloomed in August. Ones in pots started in September. Actually, I just
moved one from partial shade to sun two weeks ago, and it is blooming
(not too showy, but a few flowers).
About bringing them in, if it's gotten close to freezing, try moving
them into the garage for a couple of days, rather than putting them
immediately into a warm house - I think the sudden temperature swing
is too much for this tender perennial. I also cut them back severely.
Fertilizer in the late winter should perk them back up. And keep
well-watered - they dry out easily in my house.
I have found these sages are incredibly simple to propogate. I have
bent a live branch into another pot and buried part of the stem. In
about a month, it has rooted sufficiently to be cut from the mother
plant.
Not scientific, but it seems to work. We're supposed to freeze
tonight, so I get to test it out again!
