Re: advice sought

If those needles mat up badly they will shed water and prevent air from
getting to the soil.  Even though grass is dormant in winter, the roots
must be kept alive or it won't come back.

If the needle coverage is sparse, then you don't have a problem either
way -- the needles aren't a problem now, and they won't keep the grass
from growing in the spring.  If they are heavy, get the job over with
now and compost the suckers if you like.
