Pine needles or pine straw as we call it in the south will not hurt your
grass nor help it to any large degree. You could rake the pine straw into
piles around any plants which are cold sensitive and in that way the pine
straw would be providing a useful service. As for pine straw being acidic
its true but it adds to the soils acidity only in the slightest degree.
