I used to take the trouble to put them in clean sand for the winter;

but last fall, I just took them up out of the ground, let them dry off, and
then took off the earth that was still clinging; I then forgot them, and
left them in a wire basket in the garage, somewhat heated but not really warm;

it made no difference, as they all lived and performed as usual this summer.
