What is that stuff?

Can anyone from the upper Midwest tell me what that plant is that grows
beside the roads and is blooming now? I've seen it in shades of pink,
burgundy, and most commonly purple. Its flower looks like a daisy or
aster, but can get as tall as 5 feet (at least what I've seen). The
seeds are puffy like a dandelion.
Are we looking at another case of groundsel here?
