I built a patio this summer with one of the river rock forms (2' x 2'
square) and quick crete. I probably mixed close to 4000 pounds of wet crete
by hand. I ended up with popeye arm muscles, and hands that looked like I'd
just rebuilt a 67 Chevy.
I used the charcoal dye for the crete, and ohhhhhh did my hands look
NN*A*S*T*Y!!!!! The crete worked through the thickest of gloves, ripping
and tearing, munching away at my nails until they were ragged and broken.
It has taken the last two months for my nails to return to some semblance of
normalcy. <sigh>
I used the heavy heavy rubber gloves that one wears when refinishing
furniture, and even had surgical gloves underneath... To no avail. I tried
to rely on my old gardening techniques, i.e., soap under the nails, etc...
but even that didn't work.
I'm back to wearing the surgical gloves and playtex living gloves when
working in the yard. I find that for gloves, the playtex are the best for
yard work. You can get a good grip on weeds, plants, dirt, etc... with
these gloves. They're my personal choice for gardening! Plus, who can
resist a woman in hazard yellow rubber gloves? <smirk>
