Re: Gaura

It's possible to grow Gaura linheimeri from seed as an annual, started off
in warm conditions it flowers in 120 days according to the Johnnys
catalogue; Thompson & Morgan also list it and probably others. It's
actually a tender shrub but even here in zone 8 is not always expected to
survive the winter. As it happens it managed to survive last winter for a
change, and made plants up to 5ft high this summer - spectacular. It roots
easily from cuttings at this time of year and this a necessary safeguard
for the two variegated forms which don't come true from seed. Frost
protection over the winter is enough.

Finally, does anyone know what features distinguish 'The Bride' and
'Whirling Butterflies' from each other and from the straight Gaura
linheimeri? It seems rather muddling to me.
