Hi Graham,
I would suspect that lack of hardiness in zone8 is probably due to overly
wet winter conditions. I grow mine in very sandy, rocky,poor soil and have
never lost one at temps as low as -15C with absolutely no shelter or snow
cover. Its not 5ft high, but rather 2 1/2 to 3 but flowers profusely from
mid June to mid Oct.
I cannot see any real differences between cv.s except for Siskiyou Pink and
the variegated ones, but the names sound good.
