Re: Roses

Chris,
I know what you mean-I never thought to much about roses as I figured they
were a fussy lot and couldn't be bothered. We put in two Jackson &Perkins
climbers called "Blaze" about seven years ago. Let me tell you, we had no
clue...we planted the things in heavy clay soil without any amendments and do
you know those plants are still going strong, with hardly ever getting black
spot or other problems (other than Japanese beetles or aphids now and then).
Last year I caught the Rose 'bug.' I have added three more to my garden. One
is a shrub rose from White Flower Farm called, Rosea Rosina. I also bought
two more from The Rose Guardians in Oregon. Both are David Austin's,"White
Portia" and "Lilian Austin". And I have one on order which they are going to
ship in the spring as they think it is to late to ship. It will go into a
very large container, can't wait.

Of course, now I do amend the soil and feed them. And I am sure my collection
will continue to grow!
