"Hibiscus" can refer to any of over 250 species of herbs, shrubs and trees.
Rose of Sharon can refer to either Hibiscus syriacus or Hypericum
calycinum. I realize it can be frustrating at times, if you don't know the
Latin name, but this simply points out the importance of having a good
reference text available. Considering the amount of money that we spend on
our plants and the time we spend growing them, a good reference is
essential. My particular favorite is Wyman's Gardening Encyclopedia, but
there are certainly others.
