Hybiscus info needed

Hi There...
I have recently planted about 14 plants and was wondering if someone
would tell me the best thing to do cold coming on. I have been told to
cut them back to 18 inches in a few weeks- they are ranging in size from
18 inches to 4 foot now... they say that by cutting them back and
covering them with a burlap sack they will be ok in the winter. I am so
new to them-and am trying to learn the best way.
