Here in Michigan, I've found it is best to wait until spring to do ANY type of pruning on a
butterfly bush. Mine are beginning to grow their winter leaves (thicker, hairy) and dropping their
summer leaves. Everytime I follow advice to prune in the fall, they DIE!
