Mmmm...
so far I have three different names for this tree. I'll do an Internet
search to find out which one is native to Indiana. After all, they named a
county after them.<<

Sorry, but I don't think a search of those three names will turn up a tree
native to Indiana. Some of these species may well have become naturalized in
the United States, but none are indigenous.

Cassia fistula (which is called Golden Shower Tree) is native to S.E. Asia,
the Pacific Islands and Central and South America.

Laburnum spp. (Golden Chain Tree) is native to Europe and West Asia.

The one that is called Golden Rain Tree is Koelrueteria paniculata and it
hails from China and Korea. Although it does not come from India, it is also
called Pride of India. So, perhaps it has escaped into the wild in the U.S.
and has also become the pride of Indiana.
