Re: brug and frost was: grit for seed sowing was: Re poppy seeds and mulch

I'm glad Martha replied as I didn't see this one until too late...hope you
covered it. I had a frost threat and wrapped mine in Remay. Don't think
we had real frost as the Impatiens didn't bite the dust, but...

Anyway, brugs will stand temps. down to 40F with no problem, so I have been
told by several people who grow them. Plus, if it did get slightly bitten,
you could dig it up, cut it back severely and it would probably survive as
the soil isn't going to freeze during a first frost.

I found a grand site for brug lovers - all kinds of info. as well as pix.

Sent a note to Vicki Harding, who along with Rich Sanders has put up the
pages, and she was very prompt and kind to reply with reassurance and good
advice.

I was just given a bunch of cuttings which are now in water, hopefully
thinking about rooting. Understand they will do this readily from the
bumps along their stems. So, do not despair, take some cuttings from the
stems with no flower buds and put them in water and you'll have more next
year, even if the mother doesn't make it.

I gather yours is in the ground? You'll need to dig it up pretty soon, I
should think, if you want to carry it over the winter.
