I can not imagine a worse plant than the 'tree of heaven'.
Here in New York City they grow in any crack in the pavement
and quickly fill a vacant lot.
It is my understanding that a mature tree can send out A
MILLION SEEDS A YEAR!
The female tree produces a seed which STINKS!
Tree catepillar insects are attacted to this pest and make a
mess all over.
If you try to pull the thing our of the ground with bare
hands you had better be disinfected otherwise the smell will
stay with you for days.
If you want to fill up your lot with garbage there is no
better cover crop than this tree.
You will soon have the lot covered with green foliage.
We had a tree which had trunk damage due to a big fire next
to the tree. Within one year the fire damaged area formed a
scar and the tree is growing better than ever.
If you try to cut the tree down you had better pull the
roots because new spouts will be BIGGER AND BETTER than
anything that you had before!
In front of my house (in downtown NYC) there are trees which
must be well over fifty years old and still growing ...
except when the winter storms come and knock down the dead
branches on the cars.
regards
Joel

Tree of Heaven is very much invasive. Not only does it
spread by seed, but
its roots sprout all over the place. And it is a tough
tree, laughing at
drought. And because it is very fast growing it will
quickly shade out
smaller more desirable trees. And its wood is very soft and
its branches
break off easily. And it smells bad. All in all, not much
to recommend it.
I would certainly never plant it on purpose.
