Thanks all for the heat-loving plant ideas. I haven't grown verbena
bonarienses, but have seen lots of discussion about it on this list. I'll
have to check it out. I did have a verbena "homestead purple" that had
survived the winter in a flowerbox, and I transplanted it to a bed. I think
it disappeared however. I'll look for V.B.
Janet, I don't know the answer about your wilting phlox, unless it's the
soil. Mine is planted on the east side of a hedge, on a slope, and in clay
soil. Perhaps the combination of afternoon shade, good drainage, and
moisture retentive soil is the secret??
I do have some bearded iris, stachys and dianthus in the yard, all look a
little sad right now, however. But, you're right, they're not dead! And I
forgot to mention, three varieties of sedums are thriving.
We got 1/10th of an inch of rain on Friday...whoo, boy! I had to run out in
it to remember what it was like!
