Re: purple fountain grass

Hi Marilyn,
We are in zone 4a - 4b so the rubrum and burgundy giant probably wouldn't like it here at all.  We have had good luck some of the zone 5 grasses like Miscanthus Silberfeder and Giant Maiden, Maiden Flame and of course Ribbon Grass :-\.  This year we planted Japanese Blood Grass so we will be looking for it in the spring.  Would you suggest buying the Rick Darke book for our zone or is it more for warmer climates?
Thanks for you help,
Sue

Hi Sue,  Unfortunately, both P. setaceum rubrum and Burgundy Giant are zone 8b hardy at best.  I put mine in the GH for insurance so I don't have to start all over again every year.  What zone are you?  I can look in the Rick Darke book for any other red leafed grass for your zone.
