RE: purple fountain grass

Hi Sue,  Rick Darke lists the hardiness zone for each grass in the encyclopedia.  I see there are several for zone 4 & 5.  I'll bet there are  others on this list who live in zone 4 who could tell you some additional grasses that would be hardy for you too.  My tall Miscanthus are just opening their flowers and waving in the breeze today.  I do love that grass :).  Marilyn

Hi Marilyn,
We are in zone 4a - 4b so the rubrum and burgundy giant probably wouldn't like it here at all.  We have had good luck some of the zone 5 grasses like Miscanthus Silberfeder and Giant Maiden, Maiden Flame and of course Ribbon Grass :-\.  This year we planted Japanese Blood Grass so we will be looking for it in the spring.  Would you suggest buying the Rick Darke book for our zone or is it more for warmer climates?
Thanks for you help,
Sue
