Marjorie,
    Hi...in zone 5 the above plant will be an annual.  I live in zone 7b/8
and it is marginal for us.  For the best chance of returning the next year,
it should be planted in the spring to allow for lots of root growth.  Also,
do not cut the plant back in the fall, but wait until new growth appears the
following spring.  I have some, too, this summer and am hoping for return.
I love the blue color.
