Rudbecka nitida fits your description. If it is nitida, I think it a first
class plant blooming late in the summer and lasting a long time. There will
be many seedlings in the spring if you allow the entire plant to mature. It
is a biennial here. >>

Wrote that entire post with the incorrect name. Marilyn's post with the name
Rudbeckia triloba is what I shold have said. Too late at night! to be
writing messages. Still the message is the same, good plant, prolific seeder
and wonderful fall border plant.
