Maybe you've already gotten this info (from AHS A-Z): Found in subchaparral and sage scrub in S. California and N. Mexico. ....Grow in a border, or, where marginally hardy, against a warm, sunny wall. ... Grow in fertile well-drained soil in full sun sheltered from strong cold winds. Provide a deep, dry winter mulch." difficult to establish and resent transplanting. Once established, may eventually spread vigorously by suckers. Usually cut to the base in winter; in warmer areas, pruning group 6 (that's a different book); zone on yours os 7-8, no oither info.
