Okay, I'm ignorant.... what use would ebay have for the keywoard

At that time (1999), researching keywords and phases
was conducted via yahoo because it was the number one search engine people
used.
Yahoo original model was category based, then they added a spidered base
engine
called Inkotomai.com (spelling?).
So lets say, you were searching for a phrase "annual gardening" on yahoo, it
would first search
yahoo's database and if nothing was present, it would go to Inkotomai
database and search
for the same phrase and provide the results. In my research, garden.com had
numerous
keyword phrase redirects on Inkotomai search engine to help promote there
site. Today, yahoo's
primary backup search engine is google.com then it's Inkotomai.
Most of the phrases garden.com used, had its own unique domain name. Why? I
really don't
understand that process... I just wanted to understand what keywords they
were promoting
so I could build a similar page (In 1999)to help promote my garden domain
within Inkotomai search engine.
So why does Ebay use these key words...? Visibility... Do they need it? My
opinion... NO
It is surprising what you can find on ebay today in the gardening section
versus back in
1999. Allot of plants are for sale via ebay...so this could be why they
purchased garden.com's
redirects...
