It is Nicotiana alata that is fragrant. Also this is notorious reseeder and
you will have it all your life if once started in the garden. This plant
would bloom late here also unless started early indoors or in a frame. You
may, in your zone, be able to keep it as a tender perennial if planted in a
protected place. I have a bunch of these that have lived over in my zone 4
garden because they have seeded themselves into the foundation of the house.
That part of the foundation is around a heated garage. Those plants bloom in
June. They grow right out of the foundation, I have no idea where the roots
are, there is a stone and rock surround about 18" around the house to keep
from trimming grass and weeds all the time.
